Many American citizens shun and even engage in artifices to avoid jury duty. It is an unpaid form of service, unlike counsel who are supposedly of equal importance to the jury. Worse, it is disrespected as a form of service. Instructed to evaluate only the facts of a case, jurors often do not feel valued.

Jury duty would be far more respected and welcomed if jurors were treated as an equal…
